We all have experienced one of those hot and sticky summer nights where we have absolutely nothing to do, and our ass seems to be glued to the couch while watching some psycho Lifetime movie. But instead of wasting a perfectly good night away, why don’t you put the Hot Cheetos down and pamper yourself. Girl, you deserve it! With that being said, here are some of favorite beauty essentials and tips to turn your home into a mini DIY spa for the night.
Step One: Take A Shower
I don’t know about you but when I want to feel better about my pathetic life I like to wash away way sorrows by taking a nice hot shower, and what better way to start it off than by treating your hair with a deep conditioning mask. I usually prefer the Biolage hair care line, specifically the Hydrasource Mask but I am a poor college student on a budget, and the Loreal Total Repair 5 Damage-Erasing Balm is just as good when it comes to revamping dry and damaged chemically processed hair.
Tip: Always apply your deep conditioner throughout the ends of your hair at the beginning of your shower so your hair has plenty of time to soak up the moisture, and if you have a lot of hair like I do make sure to keep a clip on hand in the shower so you can keep all of your hair out of your face while continuing with your “spa esque” shower routine.
Another great way to feel relaxed while pampering yourself in the shower is by using an exfoliating body scrub. My absolute favorite is the Bath and Body Works Stress Relief eucalyptus spearmint sugar scrub. The only con is that this product is a little pricey and I know, I just said that I was a poor college student but this is by far hands down one of my holy grail products and it does last quite a while if you use it sparingly. However, if you want a more affordable option Target or should I say Tarjay has some really great body scrubs as well. One that I really enjoy and smells great (this would be perfect for the fall and wintertime, it has a nutty warm vanilla scent) is the Dead Sea Essentials by AHAVA in relaxing almond.
Tip: Always apply your body scrub right before shaving, you will notice such a difference and your legs will feel silky as fuck. You will actually want your man to touch you (well if you have one lol).
Step Two: Don’t Be Ashy Girl
Immediately after your shower follow up with a hydrating body lotion. This is a very important step, especially after exfoliating your skin with a body scrub. I like to use the Bath and Body Works Stress Relief eucalyptus spearmint body lotion on pamper nights to obviously go along with the sugar scrub. Just like the scrub it smells fantastic and all your troubles just melt away.
Step Three: Clear Up Them Zits
I have extremely sensitive skin and have suffered from acne since I was about sixteen. So I only use a face mask 1 to 2 times a month, one that I have been loving and have not had any problems with so far is the Freeman Charcoal & Black Sugar Polishing Mask.
Step Four: My Shiny Teeth and Me
Whitening my teeth is also something that I like to do every couple of months and I honestly just use the cheapest Crest Whitestrips from my local drugstore. After just one use I actually notice a slight difference and I think that a brighter smile will make anyone feel more put together.
Tip: Use your facial mask and whitening strips at the same time to “kill two birds with one stone”, it’s such a time saver!
Step Five: Mani and Pedi
This last and final step to achieve the perfect lazy summer night spa routine is pretty self-explanatory, but I highly suggest using a cuticle oil before applying your polish and the Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat if you are an impatient bitch like me. It will change your life and you will actually look forward to painting your nails.
