Recently, I decided to tryout Maybelline’s SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipsticks. They have a variety of lip shades to choose from and I purchased the following four.
- Easy to apply
- Unique colors but wearable for everyday
- Shades available for every skin tone
- Can look cakey when a second coat is applied
- Difficult to take off and can stain lips
Overall, I am very pleased with the liquid lipsticks by Maybelline. My favorite is “Philosopher” (in the picture below) for the springtime and I know I will probably be reaching for “Seductress” as my new lip go-to. Unfortunately, “Huntress” did not look that great on me and I’m really disappointed because I’ve been wanting to try gray lipstick for so long, but on other reviews that I have seen it does look very beautiful on other people, it’s just not the color for me.
A couple of months ago I purchased Covergirl’s Total Tease Waterproof mascara in “very black”. To my knowledge it is a fairly new product and I’ve always purchased Covergirl mascaras in the past due to its affordability. I’m not a huge fan of high-end mascaras, drugstore usually gets the job done. This may sound a little weird to some of you but what initially drew me to this product was the handle of the wand, it kind of reminds of a unicorn’s horn and it’s pink so, hello. However, when I tried it out for the first time I was not impressed.
Keep in mind, I have very long lashes that NEVER CURL. They have a mind of their own and always stick straight out, so I’m used to finding “fail” mascaras. What I’m trying to say is that I was low-key expecting my upper lashes to be clumpy and look like spider legs, but this mascara’s brush has bristles on each side, with one specifically for the lower lashes. What turned me off completely from Covergirl’s Total Tease mascara is that when I applied the product to my lower lashes it was very messy and got everywhere, even when I just used the regular side of the brush. Lastly, throughout the day it was running and smearing, even when I set my under eyes with concealer and powder.
Doll Kel Kel’s Rating: 2.5/5 Stars
1.) L’Oréal’s “Fairest Nude”
2.) Maybelline’s “On The Mauve”
3.) MAC’s “Heroine”
4.) Revlon’s “Black Cherry”
It’s all about the lips this season, especially after the Kylie Jenner trend in 2015. These are some of my favs for this winter! I hope you babydolls enjoyed ❤
I’m the type of girl that always has to wear a full face of makeup when I am out and about. Not because I need it to feel beautiful, but because I genuinely enjoy experimenting with makeup and it overall makes me feel more put together. However, when I am running errands or even going to the gym I like to go with a more natural look.
Here is what you will need to achieve this fresh and quick “no makeup” look.
- BB Cream
- I use Maybelline’s “Dream Pure” and it helps clear up blemishes (I prefer to use a setting powder after for fuller coverage but it is optional).
- Under Eye Concealer
- If you have dark circles like me I highly recommend using Maybelline’s “Instant Age Rewind” to erase and brighten up that area.
- Always fill in your brows, it makes such a difference and if you do not have a lot of time just throw on an eyebrow gel or mascara. An inexpensive one is NYX’s “Tinted Brow Mascara”.
- Black mascara, need I say more and CURL your lashes before applying. This look is all about the lashes!
- Lip Gloss
- Any light pink or nude lip product will work. EOS lip balm is an awesome alternative as well if you just need some hydration.
It’s been so long since I last sat down to write a blog post! Not to make up excuses, but I have been so busy with school and stressed out from finals. However, I am now on winter break, so I will have a lot more free time to write some cool posts for you guys!
Lately, I have been very inspired by Marilyn Monroe and old Hollywood glam. I know Marilyn has the reputation of a “dumb blonde”, but I think that there was much more to her than just a pretty face. What I love about her is that she had a public persona or “alter ego” if you will that she created and also was a fairly successful actress, playing a “character within a character” on screen. Which I think just represents how talented she truly was, there definitely was a sense of genius behind her madness. Underneath it all I believe that she was a damaged soul, or even a bit lost and the world of Hollywood was her escape from her troubling reality. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something so relatable about her to me. Maybe it’s the pain she experienced or the fantasy celebrity life she led that we all secretly dream of, which is why she may still be exceptionally relevant today.
To rock a more modernized and everyday wearable version of the classic Marilyn Monroe look you will need a neutral smokey eye with minimal liner, mascara is key. Also, the most important part, which I’m sure you already guessed is the red lip. I would suggest to first apply a red lip liner, I use NYX’s in “Hot Red” but any affordable one will do. If you want to go the MAC route their matte lipstick “Ruby Woo” would be the perfect choice for this look, and it is supposedly Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera’s go to. However, it is very drying and even though it is a beautiful color I don’t think that it is worth the money. It is very difficult to apply, so a more inexpensive option is Maybelline’s “Red Revival” (this lipstick is not matte). Lastly, to finish off the Monroe look add some loose waves and make sure to curl your hair away from your face.
I hope you enjoyed!
