Marilyn Monroe

It’s been so long since I last sat down to write a blog post! Not to make up excuses, but I have been so busy with school and stressed out from finals. However, I am now on winter break, so I will have a lot more free time to write some cool posts for you guys!

Lately, I have been very inspired by Marilyn Monroe and old Hollywood glam. I know Marilyn has the reputation of a “dumb blonde”, but I think that there was much more to her than just a pretty face. What I love about her is that she had a public persona or “alter ego” if you will that she created and also was a fairly successful actress, playing a “character within a character” on screen. Which I think just represents how talented she truly was, there definitely was a sense of genius behind her madness. Underneath it all I believe that she was a damaged soul, or even a bit lost and the world of Hollywood was her escape from her troubling reality. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something so relatable about her to me. Maybe it’s the pain she experienced or the fantasy celebrity life she led that we all secretly dream of, which is why she may still be exceptionally relevant today.

To rock a more modernized and everyday wearable version of the classic Marilyn Monroe look you will need a neutral smokey eye with minimal liner, mascara is key. Also, the most important part, which I’m sure you already guessed is the red lip. I would suggest to first apply a red lip liner, I use NYX’s in “Hot Red” but any affordable one will do. If you want to go the MAC route their matte lipstick “Ruby Woo” would be the perfect choice for this look, and it is supposedly Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera’s go to. However, it is very drying and even though it is a beautiful color I don’t think that it is worth the money. It is very difficult to apply, so a more inexpensive option is Maybelline’s “Red Revival” (this lipstick is not matte). Lastly, to finish off the Monroe look add some loose waves and make sure to curl your hair away from your face.
